Stand-up comedian Abhineet Mishra has reignited the debate around VIP culture in Assam after narrating his personal experience of being stuck in a traffic blockade during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to the state.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, Mishra wrote that he was heading to the airport when police stopped vehicles on the road, citing the movement of the Home Minister’s convoy. The halt, he said, caused inconvenience to ordinary commuters, including those with time-sensitive travel plans.
Taking a sharp but humorous tone, the comedian noted that he pointed out to on-duty personnel that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has often spoken publicly against VIP culture. Mishra even mentioned showing a video of the Chief Minister reiterating that stance. Despite this, the road remained blocked, and traffic was diverted to a service lane.
“Service road mein gaadi ruki hai,” Mishra wrote, adding wryly that posters of the Chief Minister along the stretch were his only company while waiting.
The post quickly gained traction online, drawing reactions from thousands of users and prompting discussions on social media about the disconnect between political assurances and on-ground practices during high-profile visits. Many users echoed concerns about repeated traffic disruptions and questioned whether the promise of ending VIP privileges is being implemented consistently.
While authorities have not officially responded to Mishra’s remarks, the episode has once again placed the spotlight on public inconvenience caused by security protocols during visits by senior leaders—an issue that continues to resonate strongly with citizens across the state.
