VoE Launches Clean and Eco-Friendly Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 Initiative at Kamakhya Railway Junction

(PRESS RELEASE)

Guwahati, June 22:
In an effort to promote environmental consciousness during one of the largest religious gatherings in Northeast India, Voice of Environment (VoE), a scientific and environmental research organization, conducted a mass awareness and cleanliness drive titled Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 at Kamakhya Railway Junction.

The initiative, held under the larger vision of a single-use plastic-free and clean Ambubachi Mela, was supported by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) Post Kamakhya. The campaign, launched on Sunday, June 22, witnessed a collaborative effort involving environmentalists, railway officials, and volunteers.

VoE, which has been actively working in alignment with the Mission Clean Green Assam, had earlier signed an MoU with the Kamakhya Temple Authority in December 2016 to promote sustainable practices around the temple premises. Building on that commitment, the Ambubachi Mahayog 2025 campaign focused on raising awareness among pilgrims, saints, vendors, tourists, and railway personnel on the importance of hygiene, sanitation, and eliminating single-use plastics during the mela period.

The campaign saw participation from noted environmentalists including Moharana Choudhury, Arun Sarma, and Sabita Duta, who led the signature drive and public interaction programs at the station premises. Volunteers Pallabi Saikia and Priti Saikia engaged with devotees and shopkeepers across platforms, waiting halls, and nearby vendor zones, encouraging them to adopt environmentally responsible practices.

Deputy Inspector General and Chief Security Commissioner of Northeast Frontier Railway, Abhishek Kumar, along with RPF Inspector Pawan Kumar and other railway security personnel, extended their support to the initiative. DIG Kumar lauded the efforts of VoE and emphasized the importance of collective action during such mass gatherings.

Later, VoE members Mcdonald Choudhury, Hirak Joyti Kalita, and Deboprasad Choudhury visited the Ambubachi Mahayog Camp near Platform No.1, where they interacted with devotees and departmental officials, gathering pledges and signatures in support of a cleaner, greener festival.

The team also engaged various government departments—GMC, PWD, ASTC, Assam Tourism, SDRF, Civil Defence, Health Department, and Assam Police—to amplify the campaign’s message and ensure coordinated efforts across sectors.

VoE has called upon individuals, youth clubs, media organizations, and civil society groups to unite in this mission, asserting that “Together, we can make the difference.”
