A woman has been arrested in Assam’s
Tezpur following allegations of running a sex racket involving minor girls. The operation also led to the rescue of two minors during a police raid conducted in the Murha Teteli area.
According to sources, the raid was carried out on Tuesday based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the alleged illegal activities being conducted from a residential premises in the area.
During the operation, a 17-year-old minor girl was rescued from the house. In a parallel action, police also recovered another minor girl from Sundarpur village under the Bishwanath Bazar area, who was allegedly linked to the same network.
The accused has been identified as Seema Kashyap (31), a resident of Murha Teteli. She was taken into custody after preliminary investigation linked her to the alleged exploitation network.
Police said the accused was allegedly operating the racket from her residence while also running a beauty parlour under the name “Real Zone,” which is suspected to have been used as a front for illegal activities.
Police have alleged that multiple minor girls may have been targeted and exploited over a period of time. However, officials have stated that a detailed probe is underway to verify the full extent of the network and possible involvement of others.
Following the raid, a case has been registered at Tezpur Sadar police station (Case No. 339/2026). The police is currently recording statements and collecting evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police have not ruled out further arrests as the probe continues.
