RANGIA: A 23-year-old woman was found dead with injuries to her throat inside a hotel near Rangia railway station in Assam’s Kamrup district, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Malani Guriya, a resident of Hugrajuli in Sonitpur district.
According to police, Malani had travelled from Chennai to Rangia on Saturday along with two friends. She later went to a hotel where the accused, identified as Avijit Kindo, had reportedly booked two rooms.
Police suspect that Kindo attacked Malani inside the hotel room. A pair of scissors and a screwdriver were reportedly recovered from the room.
The accused was subsequently arrested by police. Investigators are probing the circumstances leading to the death and the relationship between the accused and the deceased.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, while further investigation is underway.
