Guwahati: A tragic incident has shocked the city after a young man allegedly died by suicide while livestreaming on Instagram from a homestay in the Noonmati area on Monday night.
The deceased has been identified as Suna Malik, a resident of Guwahati. According to reports, Malik went live on Instagram shortly before taking the extreme step. During the livestream, he spoke about his emotional distress and blamed his girlfriend, Preety Deka, for allegedly ruining his life.
In the video, Suna was heard requesting viewers to record the livestream and send it to his mother. “Please record it and send it to my mother. Preety Deka has ruined my life,” he said. He also mentioned another girl named Ipshita before ending the broadcast.
Police later arrived at the homestay in Noonmati and recovered his body.
However, the deceased’s family has rejected the suicide theory and has alleged that the death was a pre-planned murder. The family has lodged a complaint at Chandmari Police Station, accusing Preety Deka and her former boyfriend of conspiring to kill Suna.
Speaking to the media, Suna’s mother claimed that the two had allegedly lured her son to the homestay before killing him and attempting to stage the incident as a suicide. She further alleged that the accused fled the scene after breaking the bathroom ventilation of the homestay.
Family members also claimed that Preety’s ex-boyfriend had earlier threatened Suna. His sister stated that the couple frequently had disputes and alleged that Preety had threatened to kill him on multiple occasions.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem examination and have initiated an investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, the family has demanded a thorough probe and strict action against those they believe are responsible for Suna’s death.
