The Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles apprehended five cadres of the NDFB from Old Khamdo village in Changlang district on Thursday night, Kohima-based Defence Spokesman Col Chiranjit Konwer said in a press release today.

They were identified as Biswajit Basumatray alias B Birsha, Birkhang Basumatray alias B Bwsrang, Divika Muchhary alias M Daobaisuli, Sampa Basumatray alias Sarfao and Dwimu Brahma alias B Dwijiri.

A large number of arms and ammunition, including four pistols and a carbine along with other incriminating documents, were recovered from their possession, the spokesman said.

In an another operation, the Changlang Battalion of Assam Rifles nabbed two NSCN(R) linkmen from Ledo and Margherita areas under Tinsukia district on Thursday night.

Acting on specific inputs about presence of the linkmen trying to terrorize people and carry out extortion in Ledo and Margherita, the battalion apprehended Seraj Khan and Sibu Pradhan.

On interrogation, the duo confessed to carrying out extortion on behalf of NSCN(R) and acting as over ground worker for the group.

Security forces under the aegis of Dao Division have been carrying out relentless operations in south Arunachal Pradesh to make the area free from the clutches of the insurgents, he added. – PTI
