Abuse against women has been prevalent in our society ever since we can remember. Even though we’ve been fighting a social evil like dowry since ages now, it is still one of the main reasons of domestic abuse against women.
In another horrifying incident of dowry-related abuse, a woman from Bhaoraguri-Gossaigaon, has been fighting her battle for justice .
According to the sources Aklima Khatun,sister of Aminur Ali inhabitants of No.1 Hudumkhata was married to Johurul Islam in Satbil under Bhaoraguri circle four years back without dowry.After due time she gave birth to a daughter and hence her physical and mental torture was started by her husband’s family specially by her mother-in-law . Gradually when it rose to the peak she informed it to her parents and sought help. Presently she is 9 months pregnant , Aklima Pleaded to go to her father’s home but her father in law (Dargo Ali) called village headman.
Followed by a long discussion with the village headman, He told her to go home for a few days to neutralise the situation. Accordingly when Aminur Ali (Aklima’s brother) came to receive her, Darog Ali her father-in-law along with his two sons Johurul Islam and Rafikul Islam made an attempt to murder attacked Aminur with sharp axe and bamboo. When Aklima tried to resist she was kicked on her belly and fell down.
And on May 19 FIR was launched by Aklima’s family members in Bhaoraguri out post demanding immediate arrest of the culprit. Local people as well as Various Students organization condemned the incident and appealed stern action against this heinous crime.
