World Blood Donor Day || Voluntary blood donation camp organized by Assam State Blood Transfusion Council

A voluntary blood donation camp was organized by Assam State Blood Transfusion Council in association with Assam State AIDS Control Society in the Assam Secretariat Complex today on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day.

The Chief Secretary of Assam, Alok Kumar donated the blood and set an example for the younger generation to come forward for Voluntary Blood Donation. Shri Anurag Goel, Commissioner & Secretary to the Govt. of Assam, Health & Family Welfare dept. & Project Director, Assam State AIDS Control Society also donated blood along with other voluntary donors. In his inaugural speech, the Chief Secretary urged the younger generation to come forward and donate blood voluntarily which is life saving act on the part of the donor.

Dr. R. Talukdar, Superintendent of GMCH on the occasion said that a healthy adult (18-65 years) can donate blood in three months interval without any physical complication. Voluntary blood donation brings happiness to the donor and saves millions of life around the world. Therefore he urged everyone to come forward for voluntary blood donation.

In this occasion, a total of 23 numbers of leading donors from across the districts of Assam were honored & felicitated with memento, certificate & cash prizes for their remarkable contribution towards voluntary blood donation. Sri Gyan Chand Jain (Billu) from Bongaigaon district was given special honour and recognition for his outstanding voluntary blood donation in Assam. Till date he has donated blood voluntarily for 95 occasions.
