An 18-year-old girl, who was gang-raped by some men, was recovered after three days by her family.
The incident came to light after the victim was found crying on a roadside by an old man in Shillong.
Police sources said that a prime accused and two suspects were apprehended on Thursday, while police are looking for the other accused involved in the crime.
The girl, hailing from Jorabat, was on her way home after work on Sunday afternoon when she met a woman at Jorabat, whom she previously knew. The woman took her to Sonapur with her and while returning in the evening, the woman refused to go back and asked the girl to accompany her son to Jorabat on a truck.
The son, identified as Sanjoy Chakraborty (18), and the truck driver took her on the truck to an isolated place near 8th Mile where she was raped throughout the night.
“Later, the accused brought two more men who also raped her the whole night and later on Monday, she was found crying on a roadside in Shillong by an old man. He took her to his home which was nearby and took care of her as she was not in her senses,” informed a member of the victim’s family.
On Wednesday, the victim managed to contact her family with the help of the old man. Later, her family took her to the police station, where she narrated the brutal sexual atrocity on her.
Luckily, the prime accused Sanjoy Chakraborty was caught at Jorabat and taken to the police with the help of a few local people.
Police filed a case (no. 1205/19, under section-365/376D of the Indian Penal Code) in this regard. Three persons have been apprehended so far and search is on to nab more persons who are likely to be involved in the case.
Meanwhile, the Jorabat AASU and a large number of local people have asked the government to ensure early and stringent punishment to the accused persons.
