Start sprinter Hima Das picked up her fourth gold of the fortnight as she won the 200m race with an improved time in the Tabor Athletics Meet in the Czech Republic on Wednesday night.
Hima clocked in 23.25 seconds and inching towards the World Athletic Championship qualifying mark but still, she is short of her personal best of 23.10. Hima’s compatriot V K Vismaya was second with a season-best 23.43.
This was 19-year-old Hima’s fourth gold since July 2 when she ran her first competitive race in Europe. She has been keeping on improving since her first race.
Here are the timings of Hima in the past 4 races.
July 2 – Poznan – 23.65
July 7- Kutno – 23.97
July 13 – Klado – 23.43
July 17-Tabor -23.25
These championships are of club-level athletes and all are using these summer events of Europe to improve their own technique and build on the weakness. With greater competition, Hima is bound to improve her timing.
Hima has been running all this summer in 200 m although last year she shone in 400m and clinched the World Youth gold also. There is no official word from her managers and coach about thee vent she would eventually participate in the main world and Asian championship.
However, she has not qualified yet for the World championship. The Qualify timing for that is 400m is 23.02 while it is 51.80 in 400m.
