Highest number of sedition cases in State

NEW DELHI, Jan 11 – Assam has registered the highest number of 17 sedition cases under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) out of the 27 cases registered.

The figures were the findings of the National Crime Record Bureau’s (NCRB) report 2018.

In 2018 a total number 70 cases were registered under UAPA and in 2017, 35 cases were registered country-wide.

Assam has also earned the dubious distinction of recording the highest number of 66 cases of rape and murders in 2018.

On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have recorded 46 and 41 cases of rape and murders, while Haryana has recorded 26 such cases.

Despite UP having six times the population, Assam has surpassed the record of rape and murders, the report said. Further, in 2017, Assam recorded 27 cases of rape and murders, the report said.

Meanwhile, India has witnessed 7 per cent increase in cases of violence against women. In 2018, the total number of cases of violence against women has been recorded as 3.78 lakh cases. UP has recorded the highest number of cases of violence against women.
