GUWAHATI, March 13 – The State government is going to fill up a significant number of teachers vacancies in elementary and HS levels in the next two months, the State Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma told the Assam Legislative Assembly today.
Replying to a question by Congress’ Rupjyoti Kurmi on vacancies in various educational institutions including medical colleges, the Minister stated that the government was looking forward to appointment of 11,000 teachers in the elementary level through TET, provided the results of the two pending court cases are in its favour.
“We look forward to make the appointments in elementary level before the Bihu. We would also announce an HS level TET to fill up the vacancies in next two month,” Sarma mentioned.
There are 9,524 and 6,863 regular vacant posts of teachers in lower primary and upper primary schools respectively under Directorate of Elementary Education, Assam.
The Minister also informed the House that there were 366 vacant posts of faculty members under Directorate of Medical Education and 57 vacant posts of faculty members under the Directorate of Ayush. Also, there were 355 posts of assistant professor vacant in different provincialized colleges. Moreover, there are 22,938 posts under different categories of posts lying vacant under Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam.
“There are vacancies in various institutions including in the seven medical colleges of Assam. However, I can assure that the situation is not alarming. Necessary action is already being taken to fill up the posts of doctors and teachers in different categories of schools and colleges,” he mentioned.
