GUWAHATI: To promote awareness on the importance of preserving our biodiversity, the need to identify problems related to the environment and ways to take corrective action, World Environment Day (WED) is observed on June 5 every year.
It is a means to tackle environmental challenges that include climate changes, global warming, disasters and conflicts, harmful substances, environmental governance, ecosystem management and resource efficiency.
Under the leadership of Kishore Kalita, President of Utsah Gosthi, a Non Governmental Organization have taken a tremendous initiative.
The President of ‘Utsah gosthi’, Kishore Kalita said that they have planted saplings in various places of Guwahati and have also felicitated some of the social activists, educationists who works for the society. The NGO also have felicitated some of the Corona warriors including Police officials, Doctors and Pharmacists with a Fulam Gamusa and a sapling.
Moreover in this auspicious day the members of the NGO have distributed masks and hand sanitizers to the needy people of the society including street vendors and rickshaw pullers.
Nilim Jyoti Barman, Vice President of Utsah gosthi and Subham Das, Asst. General Secretary of Utsah gosthi were present to make the event successful. Barman also requested all to plant trees and help make a pollution free and green environment.
