Assam reviews plans to reopen primary schools

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has decided to review plans to reopen primary schools from December 1. The primary schools in the state have remained shut from March 15 due to COVID-19 infection. The closure of schools in north and west Indian states due to the surge in COVID-19 cases has  forced the Assam government to review its plans in terms of reopening primary schools.

Though the Assam government is prepared to reopen primary schools, it is carefully watching the situation after Gujarat, Haryana, Mumbai reversed their decision on reopening of schools. The situation is being reviewed in case of Assam and the education department will stay very cautious, principal secretary to the education department, B Kalyan Chakravarthy, told Times of India.

All the educational institutes in the state were shut from March 15 due to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

The schools for the students above class 6 were reopened from November 2.
