GUWAHATI: The COVID-19 vaccination drive will begin tomorrow(January 16) across the country including 65 centers in 33 districts of Assam informed Assam Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma at a press meet on Friday.
A total of 2.09 lakh people will be vaccinated in the first stage. At first 1.09 will get the vaccine followed by 1 more lakh.
“It is not mandatory for all health workers and doctors to take the vaccine. But we will encourage the doctors and health workers and frontline workers associated with COVID-19 duty to take the vaccine,” said the Health Minister.
“This is the biggest gift by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the medical professionals,” Dr. Sarma added.
The Health Minister also said that it will take 8 weeks to complete the first stage of vaccination.
“As the vaccination will be done 4 days in a week, it will take 8 weeks to finish the first phase or first stage to complete,” said Dr. Sarma.
He added, “Anyone getting the COVAXIN must provide written consent. On the other hand, one getting COVISHIELD must provide oral consent.”
