People all across the world took up cycling to keep themselves fit and improve their
immunity to fight Covid-19. A lot of women took it up as well. On 7th March 2021, Sunday a
cycle ride to celebrate International Women’s Day was organised in Guwahati and also to
encourage more women to join the cycling revolution.
Former International Badminton player and National Champion Krishna Hazarika Rao,
DGM, OIL India Limited graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. She said she was quite
happy to see the good turnout of women and girls for the ride hoped more women take it
up as a way to keep themselves fit and healthy. She also rode her cycle along with the other
participants. Neha Talukdar, the co-owner of Modern Bikes, felicitated her with a Fulam
Gamusa.
More than 50 women and girls from different age groups, professions and sections of the
society took part in the ride. The participants were from all parts of the city and 3 women
also came all the way from Rangiya to participate. About 20 men and boys also took part
and supported the ride.
The ride was flagged off from Dighalipukhuri and the cyclists rode through parts of the city
for 10+ kms before ending at near Panbazar.
The ride was organised by Modern Bikes and was supported by Pedal for a Change. They
hope and wish that more and more women and girls take up cycling and lead the way in
making Guwahati more cycling friendly.
