Members of the Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM) on Tuesday launched a sit-in agitation demanding upgradation of all ADHOC school teachers in the state.

FASTOM members sat outside the Meghalaya Board of School Education and said they would continue the agitation till their demands are fulfilled.

Speaking to Guwahati Times, a protestor said, “Since, the past 20-30 years Meghalaya Govt. has not regularized the service of single ADHOC teacher.
Many have already retired, many died.”

“Npp govt. promised that they will solve the problems of ADHOC teachers. When asked, we are told that it is under consideration. And it seems our issue will not be resolved. So, we have decided to go on a strike from 22 April. It will be a massive protest and people who understand our cause including family members will join us,” he added.

It may be mentioned that last month, the teachers’ body had launched a sit-in in front of the office of the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) demanding fair wages.
