As expected Tuliram Ronghang was on Thursday elected unopposed as the chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) for a straight third term.
The chairman of KAAC, Raju Tisso presided over the election for the post of CEM held at the KAAC session on Thursday.
During the previous Congress regime, the then CEM Joyram Engleng, following a defeat in a no-confidence motion in 2013, was replaced by the then executive member Ronghang as the next CEM.
One June 22, 2016, ahead of the KAAC election, Ronghang along with 18 elected members switched over to BJP.
In the 2017 KAAC election, the BJP won 24 MAC seats out of 26 and formed the Council.
Ronghang was CEM for a full five-year term from 2017 to 2022. In the 2022 KAAC election, the BJP clinched all the 26 MAC seats to form the Council at KAAC.
The chairman while announcing the name of the CEM, said, “As there are no other candidates contesting for the post of CEM, I declare the name of Tuliram Ronghang as the CEM.”
Ronghang after taking the charge of CEM thanked all the MACs in the House for their unconditional support.
He further said, “With the collective support and team spirit of ‘Team Karbi Anglong’ we can do a lot for the development of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong.”
“We need to continue to press for our demand for implementation of Article 244 (A) of the Indian Constitution for granting of Autonomous State and to insist upon the Central government for implementation of MoS 2011 and 2021 signed by various insurgent groups at different occasions,” he said.
The CEM also said, “The two hill districts of Karbi Anglong and West Karbi Anglong are home of different tribes and communities. The people have voted us to power and in return it is our responsibility for the equal development of all tribes and communities without discrimination on religion, language, community and caste.”
The new ‘Team Karbi Anglong’ will work for the protection of boundaries, educational uplift, road and infrastructure development and to solve the unemployment among the youths.
After he was elected as the CEM, he said KAAC will be strict on its employees.
The CEM said, “Employees of all departments under KAAC should attend office from 10 am in the morning to 5 pm in the evening. CCTV cameras will be installed in every office to monitor whether all staff are present or not. Those employees taking leave without informing the office will not be excused and will be dealt with.”
Ronghang was later felicitated by the MACs, party workers and public.
