As part of the security arrangements for the Durga Puja and to check incidents of thefts, the Jorhat district administration with support from the police have installed CCTV cameras in and around Jorhat town.
A district administration official informed that in order to have a better surveillance, the cameras have been installed at strategic points identified b the police.
The official said that the cameras to be maintained by the police, will be of much use during the puja rush hours.
The official further said that elaborate arrangements have been made by the police and administration to ensure that puja festivities pass off peacefully.
Several temporary control rooms will be set up across the town to keep a close watch on the people’s movement. Police patrolling on foot and vehicles will be stepped up.
The puja organisers have been asked to install CCTV cameras, to have adequate lighting in and around the mandap areas and also to make arrangements for drinking water facilities for devotees.
In and around Jorhat town more than 85 mandaps are being erected.
The administration has also undertaken repair and restoration of street lights.
