PALASBARI,May 17: A book called Rajat Jyoti, which was brought out in memory of Rajat Baishya, a veteran correspondent of Dainik Asom based in Dharapur (Azara ), was released on Thursday ( May 16 ) by Senior Journalist Prakash Mahanta.
Addressing a well attended commemorative meeting held under the Chairmanship of Kamini Kanta Kalita, senior journalist Prakash Mahanta has said that Rajat Baishya had a strong based among the masses which was proved by the well attended meeting held in his commemoration on Thursday.
It may be mentioned here that the Rajat Baishya of Azara near here, who died on April 17 last due to old age ailments at the age of 90, was one of the founder correspondent of the Dainik Asom. Baishya had joined Dainik Asom in 1966 as Dharapur ( Azara ) based correspondent ( of the Dainik Asom ) and he was one of the front runner journalists of Assam.
Besides journalism, Baishya was also a headmaster of Dharapur Higher Secondary school.
Addressing the gathering, veteran journalist and literature, Paresh Baishya has highlighted the contribution made by Rajat Baishya in the field of journalism and education. Baishya has said that earlier it was teachers who were keeping forward the intellectual movements of Assam but now the journalists who have largely been carrying out the intellectual movements in Assam. He urged the journalists to equip themselves with adequate knowledge in order to guide the society in proper direction. He also stressed the journalists to work hard to become the spokespersons and voice of the people.
President of Asom Bartajibi Sangh, Madhusudan Medhi has also explained in details about his experience with Rajat Baishya as journalist and said that Baishya had always stressed on writing fact based and impartial reports.
Several journalists and social workers including Anjan Sharma, Balen Kalita, Bipul Deka, Toroni Charan Kalita, Prakash Deka, Nareswar Rajbongshi and a host of speakers from different organisations had also spoken on the life and works of Rajat Baishya.
It may be mentioned here that the book ( Rajat Jyoti) was edited by Girindra Kakoty.
