Honoured to attend Hul Diwas commemorating the 169th National Day of Santals organised by All Santal Students Union (ASSU) at Constitution Club, New Delhi.

Observed to commemorate the first independence movement of Bharat, on June 30, 1855 under the leadership of Sido Kanhu, a Santhal Hul or rebellion rose to challenge the atrocities of the British Raj, wherein thousands of heroes attained martyrdom.

Speaking on the occasion, reiterated how the community has given new wings to BTR’s cultural and socio-economic landscape. May the community keep growing and contribute even more towards the region’s growth story. And may it’s language and culture gain prominence in the global stage. My best wishes.”

Speaking about the event EM Wilson Hasda wrote on Facebook, “Delighted to attend the Hul Divas celebration organized by the All Santal Students’ Union(ASSU) at the Constitution Club in New Delhi today.

On this auspicious occasion, we pay homage to the valiant Santal revolutionaries who resisted British tyranny in 1855. The sacrifices of the Santal Murmu brothers, Sido Murmu & Kanhu Murmu laid a pivotal cornerstone for the Indian struggle for independence.

It may be mentioned that Santals celebrate this day in memory of their struggle and that of the 25,000 Santhals killed by the Britishers in the fight against social injustice and the corrupt zamindari system. This rebellion is a special day to remember the tribals’ struggle and sacrifices, honoring the heroes who defied the British during the freedom struggle. Hul Diwas is celebrated as a symbol of rebellion against British rule, recalling the battles of Santhal and Murmu Brothers Sido-Kanhu and Chand-Bhairava.
