Karnataka High Court Judge, Justice AS Bopanna, has been appointed as the Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. The President of India has appointed Justice Ajjikuttira Somaiah Bopanna to the post with effect from the date he assumes charge of the office.
A notification dated October 24, 2018 was issued by Rajinder Kashyap, Joint Secretary of the Government of India, with regard to the appointment.A farewell address to Justice Bopanna will be made by Chairman of Karnataka State Bar Council at the High Court on Friday.
The Supreme Court Collegium had recently recommended the elevation of Justice Bopanna as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court to the Centre. According to the resolution of the collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, Justice Bopanna was unanimously found suitable in all aspects for being appointed to the post, following which the union government went ahead with the appointment.
