It is not even a month that the Saraighat Bridge had been reopened after was being revamped that it will again be shut for another few days.
According to reports, this bridge, which connects the north and south bank of the Brahmaputra River, will be closed again for application of a mastic layer on it.
It has been informed that the process usually takes 10-15 days.
The move came after a discussion of the Northeast Frontier Railway with the Assam Government.
What is mastic layer?
The Mastic layer is an asphalt layer to increase the endurance of dynamic stresses that occur on bridges. It ensures the necessary stableness of the bridge providing permanent waterproofing and a long life. The layer is used on steel bridges, concrete bridges and wooden bridges.
