The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL) is resorting to shutdown for one to two hours in Guwahati in the early morning for the past about three days for maintenance of its supply network in view of the increased visits of VVIPs to the city.
APDCL sources told Media on Friday that despite the pre-monsoon works for upkeep of its power supply network, the APDCL was facing some problems due to the rapid growth of flora in the hilly and forest areas.
On Friday, Fancy Bazar and Fatasil areas were subjected to load-shedding by the Assam Electricity Grid Corporation Ltd (AEGCL) for nearly one-and-a-half hours since 3.40 pm for maintenance of equipment, the sources said.
On the August 28 incident of power failure that affected vast areas of the city, the sources said that a fault occurred in a 33KV line between the Kahilipara grid sub-station and the Paltanbazar sub-station of the APDCL around 3.15 pm on that day.
Following this, power supply was routed through the Uzanbazar sub-station within half an hour. But around 5 pm, the Uzanbazar sub-station feeder also developed some snags, leading to total disruption in the power supply system at the Uzanbazar, Judges’ Field and Paltanbazar sub-stations. As a consequence, areas like Panbazar, Paltanbazar, Uzanbazar, Gauhati Club, Chandmari, etc., had to face power failure.
Full restoration of the power supply network could be done just before midnight that day, and again, this too had to be interrupted around 1.40 am to restore the original supply line, directing the flow from Kahilipara to Paltanbazar sub-station and from Narengi to Uzanbazar sub-station, the sources said.
