In one of the biggest gold seizure in the region, smuggled gold worth nearly Rs 8 crore was recovered by sleuths of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI). The gold bars weighed over 18 kilograms.
Acting on a tip-off, the DRI recovered gold bars from inside a car travelling towards Guwahati and arrested two persons, including the driver of the vehicle, in connection with the case. The gold bars were reportedly sourced from Myanmar through an international gold smuggling racket.
However, the exact location where the consignment was first intercepted is not known.

“Later this evening, the vehicle was taken to a workshop in Guwahati where it was found that two additional gold bars were concealed in the chassis of the vehicle,” sources said.
