SHILLONG, Feb 16 – The curtains fell on the 14-day Indo-Bangladesh joint military exercise, SAMPRITI-IX, today at the Umroi cantonment on the city outskirts.
The two Armies engaged in intensive counter-terrorism training, which was held in a mountainous and forested terrain under the UN mandate.
The exercise was aimed at strengthening the military and diplomatic ties between the two countries, which allowed the two Armies to understand each other’s tactical drills and operating techniques.
In all 150 participants each from the Indian and the Bangladesh Armies took part in the exercise. Troops from the Bihar Regiment of the Indian Army and 42 Infantry Regiment of the Bangladesh Army took part in the exercise.
Senior officials from both the sides conveyed their appreciation to the participating contingents for successfully achieving the objectives of the exercise.
“The exercise provided an ideal platform for the personnel of the two countries to share their experiences on counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism operations and providing aid to civil authorities for disaster management, especially in jungle and semi-urban terrain,” defence officials said.
