GUWAHATI: Members of AASU on Thursday staged a protest in front of Jorhat deputy commissioner’s office demanding scrapping of Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.
Leaders of several indigenous tribes and groups as well as Gana Adhikar Sangram Samity (GASS) took part in the protest which was organised by maintaining social distancing and wearing masks.
The protesters shouted slogans seeking withdrawal of the amended citizenship law and against the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the state.
The protesters said that due to the pandemic outbreak the stir against CAA remained suspended for few months but now with the resumption of the protest the same will be intensified.
AASU organising secretary Jul Khound, Jorhat AASU assistant general secretary Bijoy Shankar Bordoloi, president and vice-president of Baligaon unit Pranjit Hazarika and Amrit Kumar Dhaluwa and executive member of Jorhat Sub-divisional unit Chandan Bora along with Jorhat GASS office-bearer Mridul Khound were among the leaders who participated in the protest.
