Former President Pranab Mukherjee said on Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19. The 84-year-old requested people who came in contact with him in the last one week to get tested as a precaution. “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID19 today,” Mukherjee tweeted. “I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self isolate and get tested for COVID-19,” the Congress leader, who was the president from 2012-17, said. Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala along with several other party leaders wished a speedy recovery to Mukherjee.
A single-day spike of 62,064 cases and 1,007 deaths was reported in India in the last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry figures revealed. The Covid-19 tally rose to 22,15,075, including 6,34,945 active cases, 15,35,744 cured/discharged/migrated & 44,386 deaths. India’s coronavirus recoveries crossed the 15 lakh-mark. Infections still remain concentrated in 10 states that contribute more than 80% of the new cases, it added.
