GUWAHATI: A 60-year-old man from South West Garo Hills district was arrested on Friday, July 31, after he sexually assaulted a 13-year-old girl. Police took the suspect into custody on Friday evening after medical reports confirmed the gruesome assault on the victim. The suspect has been booked under various sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. According to sources, the accused was on the way to his daughter’s in-law’s residence in a nearby village with his daughter. It was there that he met the girl who is a relative of his son-in-law.
After the incident came out, locals informed the police who quickly arrived at the scene and took the man into custody. The incident took place around 4 pm. Meanwhile, the girl was rushed to the nearest hospital after having suffered various internal injuries. SWGH Superintendent of Police, Rithuraj Ravi S, said that the accused is in custody and that they have filed an FIR against him. “The matter is now under investigation,” he said.
