While COVID-19 pandemic has forced us all to stay locked indoors, we do miss travelling, whether for work or vacation — just stepping out of our rooms and seeing something that’s not the walls of our homes is something our hearts truly desire.
And while flying, we’ve often thought if we could browse the internet, and upload beautiful cloud images instantly from our phone, instead of waiting till we land. Well, it looks like that day is almost here.
Reported first by TOI, Indian carrier Vistara has become the first in the nation to offer in-flight Wi-Fi to its passengers. The internet connectivity will be provided to passengers flying on its recently acquired fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners that are currently operating the Delhi-London route.
Right now, Vistara is offering this internet connectivity for free for all passengers — regardless of economy, premium economy or business class, for a limited period of time. It is yet to fix tariff rates for its services. They have also revealed that they plan to offer similar services on its budget A320 Neo short-haul flights too.
As of now, global aircraft carriers charge around $3 to $6 (subject to the flight duration) for allowing passengers to use services like WhatsApp, iMessage, Facebook, Line for unlimited duration whereas it costs $10 to $20 for full Wi-Fi access.
