Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma laid the foundation of the new building of the Sohra Government College and also inaugurated a 10-metre indoor precision shooting range at Demthring Lumjingsuk.

The Sohra Government College, earlier known as the Sohra College, was provincialised in 2009. The new building is being upgraded with an investment of Rs 12 crore.

The Chief Minister said the Meghalaya Government is focusing on the youths of the State so that they can have productive energy. “We are curating programmes so that we are able to guide and mould the mindset of our youth,” Sangma maintained.

“Investment in the younger generation through different activities is a key pillar to shape the future of the State and the country as a whole. As a government, we should look at ensuring that the youth are shaped in the right manner so that they become productive, responsible, patriotic, hardworking and committed citizens,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that the Government is working to create better educational infrastructure in the State. “A sum of nearly Rs 3,000 crore is required to improve the elementary school infrastructure in the State,” he pointed out.

On the other hand, inaugurating the shooting range, Sangma said that it is a small step towards creating better infrastructure for the development of the sport in the State.

“If you take into consideration the entire North East, the youth from our State are especially talented when it comes to shooting and we can really push this to make it a competitive sport that our youth can excel in,” Sangma said.

The Chief Minister said that sports “inculcates qualities of discipline, hard work and focus”, making an individual more productive and a better person.
