Republic Day: Plantation Drive at Cotton University Premise

GUWAHATI: On the occasion of the 72nd Republic Day, Voice of Environment (Youth Environmental Organization) in association with Cotton University conducted a plantation drive at Seetanath Brahma Choudhury Hostel and Botanical Garden of the Botany Department of Cotton College University, Guwahati in Assam.

Through this initiative, the organization tried to send a strong message for the vision of sustainable, clean and green Assam.

The drive was conducted by Cotton University students led by Mr. Pervez Ali of the Geography Department, Mr Hannam Ali of the English Department and the VoE team lead by Bhaskar Hazarika, Mc Donald Choudhury and Sabita Dutta.

The team planted fruit and medicinal plant saplings on the campus. The drive was supported by Cotton College University student union General Secretary Mr. Hirak Patowari, Environmentalist Moharana Choudhury
Speaking to Guwahati Times, Choudhury said about plants’ significance, directly related to our ecological balance, food- security, and Clean-Green Assam Mission.

“Students and youths are future leaders of the country and play a significant role in nation-building initiatives; therefore, the team has decided to conduct the drive at university premise in august to convey a message to all the students and youth’s of Assam and India for joining hands for such initiatives throughout the state and country so that the state and nation can become a self-sufficient, food secured and green as presently the entire world and country is facing COVID-19 pandemic crisis, so we all need to think for better, clean, green, food secured and sustainable environment,” said Moharana Choudhury.
