GUWAHATI: Guwahati Active Mobility Forum (GAMOF) on Monday felicitated eight women from Guwahati for using the cycle as a mode of transport for their daily work. GAMOF felicitated the eight women on the occasion of International Women’s Day.

The Guwahati Active Mobility Forum, reached out to meet 8 women and girls across the city and felicitated them for using their cycles to travel for their work and education. As a token of appreciation, they were
gifted a Fulam Gamusa and a tub of indoor plants.

All these women have been cycling either to their work/education place or to run errands or do shopping or even travel to meet their friends nearby. Their choice of using cycles has not only improved their own health but also the city’s and our health as they are not contributing to the growing pollution and congestion levels in Guwahati.
These women belong to different age groups, professions, and economic strata of society.

The eight women are Arpana Deka, 40, Diagnostic lab Nurse, Bhanita Boro, 27, School Staff, Jyotima Deka, 35, Water
Treatment Chemist, Kanchan Sah, 22, College Student, Karobi Gogoi, 44, School Teacher, Madhabi Bhadra, 35, School
Staff, Parismita Rabha, 21, University Student, Rejiya Khatun, 18, Street Vendor.

Guwahati Active Mobility Forum (GAMOF) is a group of active citizens working towards making Guwahati the most Walking and Cycling friendly city in India by 2030. Its members comprise Academicians and Educators, Entrepreneurs, Urban and Transport Planners, Businessmen, Media personnel as well as Government and Corporate employees.

Susan B. Anthony once said, “I think [bicycling] has done more to emancipate women than anything else in the world. A woman on a bicycle, the equal rights champion observed, presents “the picture of free and untrammelled womanhood.”

GAMOF believes women can help motivate, encourage and reach out to a much larger audience by their active lifestyle choice. Their efforts and stories need to be told.
