Guwahati, September, 2021: 18 year old Bratin Mandal, from Santipur village in Nadia district of West Bengal, cleared the IIT JEE Mains exam with flying colours, scoring 100 percentile. He secured an All India Rank of 18, becoming the first person from his village to perform this feat.
Hailing from a family of school teachers, Bratin prepared for the exams from Class 11 and managed to clear the IIT JEE Exam at the first attempt. He studied on Unacademy, which is an online learning platform. He says it changed his entire approach towards competitive exams and online learning.
He said, “It was a great learning experience on Unacademy, because of its educators, comprehensive courses, and test series. The curated material provided with the course was very helpful and helped me understand how to channelise my efforts. Through Unacademy, my preparations continued even during the worst phases of the pandemic.”
During his school days in Santipur Municipal High School, Bratin was a mediocre student with a knack for sports, particularly volleyball. He also participated in the state volleyball camp for U-14 players. However, his career aspirations lay in science. He was sure that he wanted to pursue a career in science, by studying at one of the premier technology institutes in the country.
Bratin’s strategy for cracking IIT JEE Mains has been consistency and smart work. “It’s important to not get stressed about the exam and put in your 100% at all times. I never studied for long hours. But whenever I studied, I ensured that it had all my focus. My parents never pressured me to study hard. They always inspired me to enjoy the learning process and studying at Unacademy made that process effortless,” he said.
The youngster does not have any solid plans for his future but for now, his focus is on cracking the IIT JEE Advanced Exam, which will take him one step closer to his dream of studying at IIT.
