GUWAHATI: The All Adivasi Students Association of Assam(AASAA) on Monday submitted a memorandum to Minister Ranoj Pegu demanding caste certification of Adivasis in Assam.
Their demands include-
1. Issuing of certificates to respective communities- Santali Sahitya Sabha, Kurukh Sahitya Sabha, Mundari Sahitya Sabha, etc.
2. Renaming of the Tea tribe and ex-tea tribe welfare directorate to Adivasi and Tea tribe and ex-tea tribe welfare directorate or creating of a separate Adivasi Development Council for the Adivasi community.
3. Granting Schedule Tribe(ST) status by sending the recommendation of GOM(group of ministers).
The memorandum was submitted by AASAA on behalf of the Adivasi community of Assam.
