A court in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on Monday granted bail petition to Independent Gujarat MLA and Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani.
Mevani was arrested by Assam Police on April 20 in connection with an “objectionable” comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Independent lawmaker was arrested from Gujarat and flown to Guwahati the next day.
Mevani had allegedly tweeted the ‘objectionable’ post on PM Modi on April 18.
Speaking to reporters outside the court complex, the Independent Gujarat MLA accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) of trying to tarnish his image. After Rohit Vemula and Chandrasekhar, now I am being targetted, Mevani alleged.
