India has extended assistance of nearly USD 2.5 billion to Sri Lanka in past 2-3 months: MEA

Ministry of External Spokesperson Affairs Arindam Bagchi on April 07, while speaking about the economic crisis of Sri Lanka, informed that India has extended assistance of about USD 2.5 billion during the past 2 to 3 months to Sri Lanka. While addressing a Press Conference in Delhi, he said, “We are neighbours and close friends. There have been evolving economic situations as well as other developments. We have extended assistance of about USD 2.5 Billion worth during the past 2 to 3 months, it includes credit facilities for fuel and food which are most required.” “The relationship between India and Sri Lanka is rooted in shared civilisation values and aspirations of our people, our cooperation based on commonality and interest has been strengthened in recent months. We see the recent developments in this perspective,” he added. “We stand ready to continue working with Sri Lanka for rapid post-COVID economic recovery, this is in line with our neighbourhood first policy and we have already conveyed to them on various occasions our readiness to extend whatever support we can” he further added.
