All Tai Ahom Students Union (ATASU) primary units burnt effigies of Angoorlata Deka and Siva Prasad Bhadra in different places of Sivasagar district in protest against their alleged derogatory remarks against the Ahoms in a TV channel recently.
In Sivasagar, the ATASU activists, led by Litul Buragohain, dragged effigies of Angoorlata Deka and Siva Prasad Bhadra through the streets before burning them in Doulmukh Chariali. The activists raised slogans against BJP and demanded stringent legal action against the two leaders. In Demow, the ATASU students led by Sumit Kr Handiqui, Sunit Phulkonwar, Debasish Gogoi, Bidyut Duwora, and Gobin Gogoi took out a procession and raised slogans against the two BJP leaders and demanded legal action against them.
A huge number of ATASU activists led by Akhil Ahom, vice president, ATASU Sivasagar district committee, Simanata Gogoi, Bimal Phukan, Tutu Dihingia, and Gautom Dihingia, president and secretary respectively of the Amguri unit of ATASU, carried out the protest march and threatened that the student union will not tolerate any such comment against the largest indigenous group in Assam.
In Bokota, the protest march was led by Alash Pratim Handique, secretary, Charaideo Student Union, and the Bokota unit of the ATASU. The student leaders demanded action against Angoorlata Deka and Siva Pd Bhadra for making discriminatory remarks against the Tai Ahoms. In Moranhat, ATASU and Tai Ahom Yuva Parishad activists created a noisy scene in the town while protesting against the BJP leaders’ alleged comments against the Tai Ahoms. They burnt effigies of Angoorlata Deka and Siva Pd Bhadra.
