BIS and NEAID organises awareness campaign on Hallmark

Guwahati 21 October: In order to create Awareness among consumers on Hall marking of Gold Jewellery during the ensuing Festive Season of Dhanteras and Diwali, Bureau of Indian Standards, in association with NEAID carried out Street Plays in various locations in the city, followed by a press meet.

During the press meet at Dispur press club, Sabyasachi Dhar, Head BIS Guwahati informed that the only way for a common consumer to ensure that the Jewellery procured is having required purity is by asking for Hallmarked Jewellery and looking for the three marks viz BIS Standard mark,Purity of Gold and fineness.

He also informed that Consumers can take the help of a magnifying glass 10x available with Jewellers holding a valid licence to verify the marking.

Sh Deep Deka , .Hall Marking Agent of BIS, Guwahati informed that the six digit Alphanumeric Code on the jewellery can be verified through BIS Care App to obtain information on the authenticity of the Ornament .

Sh Vijay Gauraw Dy. Director BIS urged the consumers to purchase Hall marked Jewellery with a proper Bill containing details of the Articles viz ring etc , Name of the shop, Weight in grams, cartage ,date of purchase, assaying Charges etc as this helps to maintain traceability.

It was further informed by the representatives that the jewelers need not pay any charges for registration and hence they should obtain registration online to be able to get their items Hallmarked and create he demand for their product.
