Former legislator from Abhayapuri South and senior Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) leader Rabin Banikya passed away on Friday morning at a private hospital in Bongaigaon.
Banikya who was elected to the assembly in 1996 and 2006, breathed his last after prolong illness.
Besides being a politician, he was also well known as a writer, playwright, director and cultural activitist.
The demise of the former MLA has been widely mourned.
Taking to Twitter, AGP President and minister Atul Bora wrote, “Deeply saddened by the demise of former MLA of Abhayapuri South LAC & senior AGP leader Rabin Banikya. His passing away is a big loss for our party and political field of the state.
My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayers for peace of the departed soul.”
