Chirang: Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) Chairperson and former Chief of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Hagrama Mohilary participated in the Eid-al-Adha prayers, donning traditional Islamic attire at Dawkhanagar in the Chirang district on Thursday.

Mohilary joined the faithful in their devotions on the occasion of the holi Islamic festival.

After attending the mass prayers, the former BTC Chief told media persons, “It is not the first time to attend such prayers on Eid. I do it every year. Just the places keep changing. I pray to the almighty so that people from all the religions and communities can live and work together peacefully.”

He also stated that it is duty of the people to respect each other’s religion.

It may be noted that Mohilary who ruled the BTC for three consecutive terms was banking on the votes from Muslim community.

He was ousted from the power in 2021 council elections by UPPL-BJP alliance led by United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL) President Pramod Boro.

Out of 40 seats, Mohilary-led BPF won 17 seats, while BJP and UPPL claimed victory in 9 and 12 seats respectively.
