Guwahati: Guwahati: In accordance with the directives of the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, the Regional Organ & Tissue and Transplant Organisation (ROTTO) in Guwahati commemorated the Organ Donation month in July, 2023, coinciding with the grand celebrations of “Angdaan Mahotsav” as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. The initiative aimed at raising awareness among the masses about the noble cause of organ donation and how it can save precious lives.
Throughout the month, a series of impactful activities were meticulously organized to engage and educate the public on the significance of organ donation. A pivotal event took place at the organ donation canopy, where citizens from all walks of life gathered to acquaint themselves to know more about organ donation and its life-saving potential. Expert counselling were provided along with valuable guidance to visitors, dispelling common misconceptions and myths that often surround the topic regarding organ donation.
Underlining the importance of collective responsibility, attendees were encouraged to extend the message of organ donation to their near and dear ones, urging them to consider becoming potential donors and contributing to the cause of humanity. In a concerted effort to maximize outreach, the message of organ was also disseminated through various social media platforms and news channels. By leveraging the power of modern communication, the awareness campaign aimed to reach every corner of society, fostering a greater understanding of the significance of organ donation.
The “Angdaan Mahotsav” served as a platform to instil hope and inspire compassion, as it highlighted the selfless act of organ donation and how it plays a pivotal role in gifting someone a second chance at life. The Organ Donation month proved to be a beacon of awareness, uniting the community in their resolve to make a positive difference and embrace the essence of giving.
As the month-long campaign came to a close, ROTTO Guwahati expressed gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the initiative. ROTTO Guwahati is also planning to celebrate Indian Organ Donation Day by doing awareness campaigning at GMCH campus, Rahman Hospital, Pratiksha College of Nursing as well as other institutions on the 3rd of August, 2023. It is hoped that the efforts made during this month as well as the upcoming events will create a lasting impact and encourage more individuals to come forward, pledging their organs for the betterment of humanity.
