In a resolute move towards delivering on his commitment to provide 1 lakh permanent jobs to Assam’s unemployed youth, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma recently presided over the distribution of appointment letters to 514 candidates who had previously appeared for the Assam Direct Recruitment Examination (ADRE). These candidates had met the cutoff marks for Class-III and Class-IV positions but were initially overlooked due to an age-based selection rule.
This decision came about as a result of an unfortunate situation where around 835 equally qualified candidates couldn’t secure positions due to age constraints. Recognizing their merit, the Chief Minister decided to fill the remaining 514 vacancies with these deserving individuals.
Speaking at the ceremony held at the Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma emphasized that the commitment to offer over 1 lakh jobs was made by the State Cabinet upon taking office in 2021. Delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic’s second and third waves were overcome, and the recruitment process gained momentum. By the second anniversary of the current government, around 86,000 job seekers had already received their appointment letters.
Addressing the fortunate 514 candidates, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma acknowledged the role of both merit and luck in their selection and highlighted that age criteria remained a crucial factor. He referred to them as “blessed children of God” and encouraged them to serve the special segments of society, such as the differently-abled and the socially disadvantaged, as a way of repaying the blessings they’ve received.
Dr. Sarma expressed confidence in the transparency of the current recruitment process, expecting these new government servants to positively impact the work culture in government departments by serving with integrity.
Highlighting the importance of living within one’s means to prevent corruption, Dr. Sarma urged the 514 recruits to align their lifestyles with their incomes.
With the distribution of appointment letters to these 514 candidates, the total number of appointments made during Dr. Sarma’s tenure as Chief Minister reached 87,402. Furthermore, plans are underway to publish advertisements for an additional 22,000 vacancies in the near future, surpassing the promised 1-lakh job mark. Dr. Sarma encouraged aspiring job seekers in the state to prepare diligently for the upcoming recruitment examinations.
Lastly, Chief Minister Dr. Sarma teased the imminent launch of a significant scheme aimed at facilitating self-employment opportunities for 2 lakh youths in the state.
