Union Minister Kiren Rijiju emphasized on Tuesday that the BJP stands out as the party most committed to resolving the issues and challenges faced by Northeastern communities across the nation.
Speaking to ANI, Kiren Rijiju stated, “The BJP, if elected, is fully committed to addressing the concerns and significant demands of Mizoram’s people, as outlined in our manifesto. Preserving tribal culture, customary laws, and more are top priorities for the BJP government. Mizoram’s protection is enshrined in the Constitution, and the BJP will ensure that all its provisions are faithfully implemented.”
He further criticized the Congress, asserting that the party had historically mistreated the people of Mizoram, insulting their traditions and languages, as well as minority groups, Christians, and tribal populations. He also highlighted that the Congress had belittled the significance of small states, whereas Prime Minister Modi prioritizes border villages and the welfare and safety of Northeastern people. Kiren Rijiju expressed his belief that no other political party, including the Congress, can match the BJP’s commitment to addressing the concerns of Northeastern communities.
Kiren Rijiju’s comments came as he was appointed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the election in charge for the upcoming Mizoram Assembly polls, scheduled for November 7. Mizoram is one of five states set to hold elections, with the vote counting to take place on December 3.
In the 2018 Mizoram assembly elections, the Mizo National Front secured 26 out of 40 seats with a vote share of 37.8%, emerging as the winner. The Congress won five seats, and the BJP secured one seat.
