Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed his confidence in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) winning the Mizoram Assembly Elections, emphasizing that the people of the northeastern state would likely recognize the crucial role of a BJP-led government in advancing Mizoram’s development.
During his visit to Mizoram to campaign for BJP candidates in the November 7 assembly elections, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush shared his views with ANI. He highlighted the significant development and remarkable transformation achieved under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past nine and a half years, serving as an inspiring example for the entire North East.
Sonowal firmly believed that the educated population of Mizoram, being the most advanced state in terms of education, would acknowledge the necessity of a BJP-led government for the state’s further development.
In a subtle critique of the Congress, Sonowal also pointed out that the Northeast had witnessed disparities in developmental progress during the country’s previous governance. He mentioned the lack of connectivity and communication infrastructure in the region, particularly during Congress’s rule, and how transformative measures had turned the entire North East into an attractive destination for national and global tourists and investors.
On another note, the BJP recently announced its initial list of twelve candidates for the upcoming Assembly polls in Mizoram. Meanwhile, on October 30, the Congress, aiming to regain power in the North Eastern state, pledged that the first session of the new Legislative Assembly of Mizoram, led by the Congress party, would pass a new bill ensuring the protection of tribal land, forests, and rights within the state.
Mizoram is one of the five states going through assembly elections, with polling scheduled for November 7 and vote counting set for December 3. In the 2018 elections for the 40-member Mizoram assembly, the Mizo National Front secured 26 seats with a 37.8% vote share, while the Congress won five seats, and the BJP captured one seat.
