With no relief in sight from the freezing weather, severe cold conditions prevailed in several areas in northern and central India, on Sunday morning, with temperatures in the below-normal range. The ‘cold day’ to ‘severe cold day’ conditions are likely to continue over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Rajasthan for the next one to two days and significantly decrease thereafter, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, Uttar Pradesh, and East Rajasthan also witnessed dense to very dense fog conditions for a few hours in the night and morning hours today, and as per IMD, such conditions are likely to prevail in isolated pockets in Northwest India for the subsequent two days.

Apart from that, a fresh rain spell with thunderstorms or hailstorms is also likely over Northwest and Central India (Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh) from January 8 to 10.
