Elephants’ Rampage in Rani, West Guwahati: Collaborative Efforts to Address the Crisis

In a recent awareness meeting attended by farmers, officials, and NGO representatives from Nalapara, Pukhuripar, Bikrampur, Khapegaon, Udaypur, and other areas, the impact of wild elephants descending from the mountains and damaging crops in slum areas was discussed. The meeting, held in the presence of various stakeholders, included demonstrations of solar-powered machines by NGO WWF India. David Smith and WWF India Field Assistant Yusuf Khan explained the functioning of the machines to the attendees.

The gathering concluded with the active participation of local farmers, journalists like Ramesh Das and Jon Rava, and members of the Rani Mairapur Elephant Protection Committee, including Dinesh Thathe, President of the committee. The meeting aimed to address the challenges posed by the elephants and find sustainable solutions to protect crops and promote coexistence.
