GUWAHATI,May 27:An International Symposium on the Intersection of Language, Culture, and Identity was organised today (May 27) by the Department of English and Foreign Languages, Girijananda Chowdhury University in collaboration with Doom Dooma College, Tinisukia, Dakshin Kamrup Girls College, Mirza, Sipajhar College, Darrang, Rangia College, Rangia, Dispur College, Guwahati, Chhaygaon College, Chhaygaon, Swahid Peoli Phukan College, Namti, Sonapur College, Sonapur, Digboi Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Digboi, Arya Vidyapeeth College, Guwahati, B.Baruah College, Guwahati, Pub Bongsar College, Singimari, North Guwahati College, Guwahati, Kharupetia College, Darrang, B. H. College, Howly, Barpeta Girls’ College, Barpeta, Tezpur College, Tezpur and Nabajyoti College, Kalgachia. Two eminent scholars Professor Adnan Khadim Al-Karghood, Professor of Spanish Language and Translation, Al al-Bayt University, Mafraq, Jordan and Professor Sharif Atiquzzaman, Professor of English, Principal Government Brajalal College Khulna, Bangladesh participated in the Symposium as invited as Resource Persons. More than seventy delegates representing twenty colleges and universities of Assam participated in the Symposium. Both the resource persons conducted a stimulating session on intersection of language, culture and identity and answered a dozens of questions from the participants. The symposium began with a welcome address by the President, SSA Society, Jasoda Ranjan Das. The inaugural session also marked with an event of book release. A book viz “Borders and Boundaries: Indigenous Cultures Now and Then”, a collection of research papers presented at the international Conference organized on January 22-23, 2024 was released by the Hon’ble Chancellor of the University Prof. Jayanta Deka. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kandarpa Das also welcomed the guest and participants and conducted the book release event. The book “Beyond Borders and Boundaries: Indigenous Cultures Now and Then” has been edited by Dr. Nilakshi Goswami, Dr. Jupitara Boro, Priti Sarmah, and Manashi Devi and published by Purbayan Publication, Guwahati. The symposium served as a forum for the exchange of ideas, the promotion of discussions and the emergence of fresh perspectives. Several teachers from Colleges attended the symposium in an effort to promote an environment of intellectual exchange and collaboration.
