GUWAHATI, July 3
The Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) in Guwahati is delighted to announce the appointment of Ashwin Noronha as the new Chief Airport Officer. Ashwin transitions to Guwahati Airport from his role as Chief Operating Officer at Mumbai International Airport Limited. With a rich background in the aviation industry, including stints with Qatar Airways Group, KPMG, and Zurich Airports in India, Ashwin will lead Guwahati Airport towards the overarching vision of Adani Enterprises.

In May 2024, Guwahati Airport handled over five lakh passengers, marking a nearly 15% increase compared to the same month in 2023. To manage this substantial growth and enhance passenger satisfaction, Guwahati Airport is set to undergo significant changes in the coming years. A new terminal, capable of accommodating over 13 million passengers, is expected to be operational by mid-2025. Additional developments include increased runway capacity, MRO facilities, a helipad, and a cargo market, positioning the airport as a major international hub for South-East Asia.

The development plans for Guwahati Airport will focus on expanding regional infrastructure, with a heightened emphasis on both passengers and non-passengers. By investing in digital technology innovations, the airport aims to provide a seamless and enhanced passenger experience.

“I am thrilled to be a part of Guwahati Airport’s journey as we continue to build the airport of the future for this region. Managing an airport is complex and challenging but can greatly impact people’s lives. I look forward to this leadership opportunity and to making positive contributions,” said Ashwin. He also expressed his gratitude to his predecessor, Utpal Baruah, who played a crucial role in the airport’s development.

Since joining the Adani Airports team in 2019, Utpal Baruah has guided various teams to deliver a seamless passenger experience. During his nearly three-year tenure as Chief Airport Officer, Utpal utilized his extensive aviation experience to elevate LGBIA Guwahati to world-class standards.
