Guwahati, October 16: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday welcomed the announcement of the election schedule for Jharkhand, terming the upcoming polls as “crucial” for the state’s future.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) released the election schedule, with voting in Jharkhand to be held in two phases, on November 13 and November 20.
CM Sarma, who is also BJP’s co-incharge for the Jharkhand assembly polls, emphasized “Modi’s Guarantee” in a post on X on Tuesday. He said, “I heartily welcome the announcement of the Jharkhand Assembly elections. This election is crucial for the future of the state.”
“On one side is the INDI alliance’s track record of sin, corruption, and appeasement in the last five years, and on the other side is #ModiKiGuarantee, which will take the state on the path of progress in the coming five years. In the coming days, in this great festival of democracy, all our workers will reach the homes of the people and seek their blessings,” he added.
Votes for both Jharkhand and Maharashtra are set to be counted on November 23. The ECI has already issued deadlines for the two-phase election process, with the last dates for filing nominations being October 25 and 29, respectively. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 28 and 30, while October 30 and November 1 are the last dates for the withdrawal of candidates.
According to the ECI, there are a total of 2.60 crore eligible voters in Jharkhand. Among them, 1.31 crore are male and 1.29 crore are female, showcasing an almost equal gender balance. Significantly, the electorate includes 11.84 lakh first-time voters and 66.84 lakh young voters. Additionally, senior citizens above 85 years of age will be allowed to cast their votes from home.
